SHOW: Buckle 07

Title: Belt Buckle.
General: This Sterling Silver Belt Buckle, is cast in Sterling Silver,
and enamelled in blue. The stone is a synthetic ruby, which
lights up when it is touched.
Material: Sterling Silver, Enamel.
Gem: Synthetic Ruby.
Method: Hand Cast.
Finish: Polished.
Mechanics: The battery is a rechargeable nicad. The stone is mounted on a
spring and contact is made when the spring compresses, the
closing of the belt is by post and pad.

CASTING.

CASTING is a method by which moulten metal is poured into a mold
in order to achieve the desired shape. In the "Lost
Wax" method, an accurate wax model is made. The wax
model is invested (put in a chrystobalite plaster),
after the investment has set, the wax is burned out in
a Kiln. This leaves a negative cavity into which the
                    moulten metal may be poured.

Vitreous ENAMEL.

Enamel is a powdered glass, applied to the surface
of a metal, and is then fired in a kiln to fuse the
powdered glass into a solid mass. In the process
the enamel adheres to the metal.

Technical Data for SYNTHETIC.

The Synthetic stones are commonly of the corundum (Sapphire)type
or the Spinel type. These are grown inside a
flame, from their relevant chemicals. The
resulting stone is termed a "BOULE". In recent
years more stones are simulated by laboratory grown
"NATURAL" crystals. In other words they are grown
from the same chemicals as nature uses, and are
therefore almost impossible to tell from the
                        natural stones.

Cubic zirconia comes in so many colours that many
stones are now also imitated by this synthetic.
You can usually tell because they are just too
                        brilliant.
