Small visiting parties from any member societies, groups,
schools and researchers are most welcome and camping is allowed by previous
booking on a restricted area within Dalton Park and not in the sanctuary. No
open fire is allowed under any cirumstances. Rest room, cooking facilites, drinking
water, toilet and electricity available at Dalton Park. Hotel, Church and Public
phone at the Dalton Village where also limited shopping facility are available
at the Dalton Post Office, (ask for Lorna).

18 August, 2002:
Members of the Canberra Ornithologist Group (COG) visited Oolong. The excursion
was of interest to them. A pair of Red Capped Robin was reported for
the first time. Southern Whiteface, which are in significant decline
in woodlands and a number of Flame and Scarlet Robins were noted
also. Some members of the group were pleased to see the White Browed Babbler
for the first time.
A return trip is already planned for the following year (see date listed below).
It is envisaged that the group will be of about 25 people.
29-30 September, 2002:
The second party by the Australasian Native Orchid Society (ANOS), conducted
by Mr Graeme Bradburn, visited Oolong and camped out over the weekend. They
identified and took several close-up pictures of orchids, including one yet
to be identified (Photos by Ron Howlett). Further visits by a larger ANOS party
are planned.
17 October, 2002:
Mr Glen Bann, Project Officer, Greening Australia, Bushcare Support and Green
Corp visited Oolong to discuss the projects and management plans in cooperation
with Greening.
26 October, 2002:
The ANOS party is continuing
the search for more specimens of the orchid to be classified. They were found
and some samples collected for identification.
3-5 January, 2003:
A Survey team from the Frog and Tadpole Study Group (FATS), conducted by Dr
Arthur White, investigated Oolong and surrounding areas to officially record
frogs, reptiles, birds and any other wildlife to be included in our inventory.
A single Eastern Wallaroo, two additional species of frogs (Beeping Toadlet
and Lesueur's Frog, several reptiles and six species of birds, including four
nocturnal bird species, were recorded for the first time.

Sketch Map together with a Bird

ANOS Survey
During a brief visit the party collected two samples for identification. These
two new species of Oligochaetochilus are illustrated (Photos by Graeme
Bradburn) in our orchids list as 'sp.Oolong 1' and 'sp.Oolong 2'.
11-12 October 2003:
Visit by Cumberland Bird Observers Group (CBOG) conducted by Tony Saunders.
October 2003 (Actual date of visit to be confirmed):
Mr David Jones, leading botanist on Australian Orchids to visit Oolong to see
the new species of orchids discovered by ANOS.
26 October 2003:

Dr Tony Saunders to conduct a tour for our members, visitors and schools.
Dr Saunders compiled a list of birds for the 25th of March vist, which included
56 species! He commented: "Not bad. considering how dry it is."
