The Museum building was originally located near the showgraound. It is an 1890s era four-room wheatherboard building thought to have been built by George Nash. In 1987, with bicentennail funding, it was moved to its present location on Louee Street at the rear of the Bridge View Inn, and renovated by the Society to hold the Society's records and collection.

The collection consists of domestic items, records and photographs portraying aspects of family life in the Rylstone District in the 19th and 20th centuries. The cottage has books and souvenir items for sale, in particular copies of Rylstone History of Settlement and 1884-1984 Railway Centenary, plus a panoramic photograph of Rylstone in very early days.
